Life & Career

Biography

Amelia Charlotte Kerr was born on October 13, 2000, in Wellington, New Zealand, into a cricketing family. Her father Robbie Kerr played first-class cricket, and her elder sister Jess Kerr also represents the White Ferns as a pace bowler. Amelia's prodigious talent was evident from childhood, and she burst onto the international stage at just 16 years of age when she debuted for New Zealand in a T20 International against Australia in 2016. Her ability to contribute with both bat and ball made her an instant asset to the team, and she has since become one of the most impactful all-rounders in women's cricket.

Kerr's most memorable moment came on June 13, 2018, when she smashed an unbeaten 232 runs against Ireland in Dublin, setting the record for the highest individual score in women's ODI history. She was just 17 at the time, surpassing Belinda Clark's long-standing record of 229 not out. Remarkably, in the same match, Kerr also claimed five wickets with her crafty leg-spin, recording figures of 5/17. This extraordinary all-round performance cemented her reputation as a generational talent and remains one of the most complete individual displays in the history of cricket.

Over the following years, Kerr has continued to develop into one of the finest players in the world. Her deceptive leg-spin bowling, which includes a well-disguised googly, has troubled batting line-ups at the highest level. Combined with her fluent stroke-play and ability to accelerate through an innings, she offers rare versatility. In 2024, Kerr was recognized as the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year, confirming her status as the premier all-rounder in women's cricket. She continues to represent Wellington Blaze in domestic cricket and is a cornerstone of the White Ferns squad across all formats.
